Primeira Liga Tickets

Information about Primeira Liga:

The history of the Primeira Liga dates back to the 1934–35 season, beginning as an "Experimental League" before becoming the Campeonato Nacional da Primeira Divisão.

It was renamed to its current form in 1999, when the Liga Portuguesa de Futebol Profissional took control of the two top nationwide divisions. Over 70 teams have competed in the Primeira Liga throughout its history, but only five have ever been crowned champions.

Those three dominant clubs — Benfica, FC Porto, and Sporting CP — have won practically all titles since the competition's inaugural season in 1938–39, making Portuguese football one of the most top-heavy leagues in Europe.

Benfica leads the all-time standings with 38 titles, making them the most successful club in Portuguese football history.

The league's all-time top scorer is Fernando Peyroteo, who netted an extraordinary 332 goals between 1937 and 1949, playing exclusively for Sporting CP across just 197 appearances — a ratio of 1.7 goals per game.

The legendary Eusébio holds the record for being the league's top scorer on the most occasions — seven times — and scored 42 goals in a single season in 1967–68. Beyond titles, the Primeira Liga has been the stage for the development of world-class talent such as Luís Figo, Rui Costa, and Deco, who left an indelible mark on Portuguese football culture.

The league's reputation has grown considerably in recent decades, breaking into the UEFA top five for the first time in the 2011–12 season, surpassing France's Ligue 1.

Today, the Primeira Liga is widely respected as one of Europe's most competitive and talent-producing leagues, consistently sending clubs and players to the highest levels of continental football.
