The TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen, better known as Bayer Leverkusen, was founded by workers of the Bayer company on July 1, 1904 in the city of Leverkusen. Throughout history great players like Émerson Ferreira, Michael Ballack, Landon Donovan, Niko Kovac, Roque Júnior, Lúcio, Zé Roberto, Dimitar Berbatov, Arturo Vidal, Toni Kroos, Chicharito Hernández or Dani Carvajal have passed through the club. Due to the proximity between the cities of Leverkusen and Cologne, the eternal rival of Bayer Leverkusen is FC Köln, with which very exciting derbies are experienced.
His best period was surely between 1988 and 2002 when the team won 1 UEFA Europa League (1988) 1 German Cup (1993), was 4 times runner-up in the Bundesliga (1997, 1999, 2000, 2002) and was also runner-up of the UEFA Champions League (2002).
Information about BayArena Stadium
The BayArena stadium, formerly known as Ulrich-Haberland-Stadion, opened on September 4, 1932. In 2009 it was remodeled and currently it has a capacity of 30.000 spectators. It is located in the city of Leverkusen, near the center. The BayArena always hosts the Bayer Leverkusen matches, although it has also hosted great events such as the 2011 Women's World Cup.
